# Appearance

> Change your username and avatar.

The Appearance tab lets you update how you appear across Faction Trade — in chat, on leaderboards, and on your profile.

## Changing your username

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Profile > Appearance">
    Click your avatar in the top-right and navigate to the **Appearance** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit your username">
    Clear the current username and type a new one. The app checks availability in real time:

    * **Green checkmark** — the name is available
    * **Red X** — the name is taken or invalid
    * **Spinner** — checking availability

  <Step title="Save changes">
    Click **Save** to confirm. Your new username takes effect immediately across the platform.

**Username rules:**

* 3 to 20 characters
* Letters, numbers, and underscores only
* Must be unique

## Changing your avatar

  <Step title="Open Profile > Appearance">
    Navigate to the Appearance tab in your profile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a new avatar">
    Browse the grid of 12 pixel art avatars and click the one you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save changes">
    Click **Save** to apply. Your new avatar appears immediately in chat and on your profile.

## Where changes appear

Your username and avatar are displayed in:

* Chat messages
* Your profile dialog
* The navigation bar (your avatar and name)
* Leaderboards and rank displays

  Changes take effect immediately across the entire platform. There is no delay or approval process.
